The UWW Grappling World Championships will be held October 12th-15th in Pontevedra, Spain. USA Grappling (USAG) will be announcing the exact locations of the Team USA Grappling World Team Trial Qualifiers and will also announce the location of the Final WTT (NoGi only) for those athletes who would like to represent the United States of America at the UWW World Championships.
Each of the 4 Qualifying events will consist of a variety of bracket sizes
and rule sets depending on the host organizations. The Champion of each
weight class, men's & women's, from each of these qualifying events will
be automatically placed in the Final USAG WTT event. The remaining 4 spots
will be selected by the USAG Board of Directors through a petition unless
you qualified during a Special Match event. The petition criteria
requirements are listed below.
Petition forms will be available on the USAG website 14-June-2022.
The USAG World Team Trials champion, at each prospective weight class (NoGi only), will represent the United States at the UWW Grappling World Championships in Pontevedra, Spain. World Team Members will be funded in the following way: round trip flight (price based out of Los Angeles), Gear (Nogi), hotel for 3 days, entry fee, transportation to and from the hotel and all meals that are provided by the host country. If you are the NoGi champion at the USAG WTT then you will also have the option to compete in the Gi competition in Spain. If you decide to compete in the Gi portion of the UWW World Championships then you will be responsible for the 2 extra days at the hotel and you must have your own red Gi and blue Gi. If you decide not to take that spot then the spot will be offered to the runner up and so on. If the runner up chooses to go and compete in the Gi then that athlete will be responsible for all of their own expenses.
Team USA Grappling Qualifying events are open to all competitors who are registered Adult Athletes with USAG. All competitors must hold a valid USA passport that does NOT expire prior to 6 months of the UWW World Championships.
USAG will consider the following criteria for the USAG World Team grappling trials (NoGi only) selection that will enter them into an 8-man bracket. Registration for petitions will be open on 14-June and must be received by 7-July-2022 at 11:59pm.
USAG will review all the applications and will then make the final selection based on the criteria and internal selection criteria. USAG will have the final decision for all petitions. The athletes that are selected will be placed in an 8-man bracket.
